Laundry Day (Guillaume Chartier)

Awhile back, I shared an amazing animation done by a student in her finals on my other animation blog, well, here's another one, this time by Sheridan graduate and Pixar animator, Guillaume Chartier.

The plot is really basic but all the same amusing, a woman believes that her boyfriend has been keeping away some really sick, dark secrets about himself from her when one day coming across a strangely feminine device that vibrates while she is doing laundry. What the man admits to after is both unexpected and expected to all watchers... and of course the woman herself.

This animation (As show in the incomplete parts) consists of traditionally hand drawn frames with digital coloring, most possibly done in Photoshop.

I have always adored this form of animation the most, traditional animation, cel-shading, hand drawn animation... whatever you call it, you know what I am talking about! I can always appreciate the drawing challenges constantly faced in 2D animating that 3D animating tends to not have, such as drawing more dynamic actions and crazy perspectives (And expressions I suppose) while keeping everything as fluid as possible.

The fact that this video is incomplete allows you to see how Guillaume tends to work on his 2D animations, in showing the sketched out, uncolored frames, before they are completely cleaned up like the rest of the video.

He has also generously posted a lot of progress and concept art of this film on his blog:

Guillaume Chartier works as an animator at Pixar Animation studios, and has worked on notable films such as Up, Toy Story 3, Cars 2, Brave and Monsters University. He is also part of Studio Redrum, a studio specializing in illustrations and storyboards.
