Food for Thought - Production - Changes

Cara did an absolutely wonderful job on the latest animatic, it showed me just how well the entire storyboard would actually flow as a real, proper animated sequence. Needless to say, I ended up making quite a few changes based on it, and as guilty as I truly feel (Seeing how much thought she put into her gorgeous storyboard and animatic...), these changes were made based on the following reasons:
  • Not enough time left
  • A little too complex and does not go along with the more simpler animated scenes
  • The more complex camera angles (Namely the high view shots and so on) did not seem to go along with the rest of the visual style.
  • Some scenes are squeezed into really small duration, when they clearly require more time to be showcased properly
  • Does not flow very well into the next scene
Sheet 2:

Frames 1 and 2 shows Johnny just going "Oooooh~" instead of giggling cheekily. Frame 3 has been changed to a medium shot so that it connects directly to Frame 4-5. Frame 6 shows him turning the other way so that he's facing the tree.

Sheet 3:

Frame 3 has been cut out, so that we can allow Frame 2 more time, Frame 2-3 together seems to be a real rush otherwise. Also I am really not happy with how I tried sketching out Frame 3 and I know I will take too much time trying to get it right (I had already spent more than two days and am still not happy with it). So we can simply use one of the legs already seen in the character sheet and just a puppet tool, but I will also put in my sketch version of him kicking his foot out and shaking it back and forth.

Frame 4 has also been cut out due to it's complexity (The breaking of the roof), also we will require having to draw the cart from another angle which will take up more time.

We will get a long shot version of him falling through the roof however, which will then connect to Frame 5.

Frame 6 has been cut out, seeing that it will only be in there for a split second, based on the animatic, also out voice actor did not record any coughs for that scene.

Sheet 4 and 5:

Gestures for Cake man have been altered slightly as he speaks, he will also keep talking in Sheet 5 (Right after "Say!") when he appears beside Johnny for a short while. The scene otherwise seemed really awkward without him talking.

Sheet 5, Frames 4 will immediately show Johnny in the same position as he is in Frame 6, so everything is immediately in place once Cake man moves to the side with the cart and park background, Johnny will however still show his shock to the situation as he looks around.

Sheet 6:

Nothing much I'm going to change, but I might simplify Johnny's reactions a bit? If I'm running out of time that is.

Sheet 9:

Frames 1-2 will connect to the last frame in Sheet 8 and will instead be shot in a medium shot, also allowing the whole scene to connect. (So Johnny looks to the side instead of the front for this part)

Sheet 10:

Frames 3-4 will just alter the original perspective ever so slightly and will instead be shot a little to the right of him instead of the front. Also I still need to figure out how Frames 5-6 are meant to be animated...

Sheet 11:

Frames 3-4 are probably cut out, the lines from Frame 4 will be inserted into Frame 2 instead before cutting straight to Frame 5 where his hands grabs Johnny's cheeks.

Sheet 12:

Frame 3 has been cut out and the line will be put into Frame 2 instead.

... Still gonna try to keep the jump and twirl scene though, because it's a very Cara scene.

Sheet 13:

Frame 4 has been cut off, Johnny will immediately just walk offscreen after Frame 3.

Sheet 14:

All frames will be shot the same as the last two frames from Sheet 13... Another walk cycle may be done for this part (To show his annoyance and exhaustion), it all depends on my teammates, if not, we could simply change his expression on the first walk cycle.

Frame 3-6 in Sheet 14 has also been cut, once the ice-cream cart comes into view, ice-cream man is also already in there waiting for him.
